Welcome to Alpha Phi

Alina

Hello! Welcome to Alpha Phi at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Zeta Phi chapter, MIT’s first sorority, is a group of friendly, ambitious, and talented women. Each of our sisters has outstanding personal accomplishments, and the support that each receives from the chapter is overwhelming. Here at Alpha Phi, we foster an environment that is encouraging and challenging, as we always expect the best of each other and of ourselves.

The Zeta Phi chapter was founded in 1984 by a group of accomplished, driven, and social women. Today, we pride ourselves in carrying on that same vision of excellence. We are involved in countless on and off-campus activities and excel in each of MIT’s 21 majors. The close friendships formed within our chapter make our college experience unforgettable, as we make memories that will last us a lifetime.

Please enjoy browsing through our website to learn more about our ever-evolving chapter and our experiences in Alpha Phi. We will continue to keep you updated about our recent and upcoming events, as well as spotlight individual sisters and alumnae as they continue to accomplish great feats.

Alumnae Weekend - April 23/24

April 23-24th was this year’s alumni weekend.  Alumnae who could attend enjoyed lunch with sisters in the house, dinner with current sisters and their fellow classmates, and an evening at Roads.   The events were well attended and accompanied by sisters of events which the alumni had submitted from their time at MIT.  A sincere thank you goes to Lauren Vegter, the current Alumni Chair for organizing the event!

American Society's Relay for Life:

This year the sisters of Alpha Phi joined forces to participate in the Relay for Life in order to raise support to fight cancer.  The walk, held at Harvard’s indoor track, was well attended.  All sisters who participated in the event enjoyed the congenial atmosphere and the attention they were bringing to the fight against cancer!

Chi Phi Mixer:

Can anyone resist the ironic humor of Tina Fey and the writers of the Office?  Nope, it’s just not possible.

Members of Alpha Phi and Chi Phi enjoyed taking a break from working on Problem Sets and studying for tests by watching these two widely popular television shows and enjoying snacks.  Sisters enjoyed the comfort of Chi Phi’s refurbished basement and enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with the brothers of Chi Phi.

King of Hearts - April 16:

Alpha Phi presented King of Hearts, a male pageant show, which allows for different men on campus to compete through a myriad of activities.  This year contestants from fifteen fraternities came to partake in the festivities.  The competition was tense as freshman showed of their talents, but in the end Ayaboe Edoh – a senior in Nu Delta – was crowned the King of Hearts.

The Sisters of Alpha Phi thank all of the contestants for their participation, as well as the Presidents of the other sorority chapters on campus and the President of Panhel for their help in identifying the best fit for this year’s King of Hearts.

AXO Mixer:

APhi and AXO enjoyed some chocolate fondue and fruit, while playing board games.  This mixer initiated much laughter as girls began to play games, such as Catch-Phrase.  The night was spent in overall congeniality as girls took a study break to hang out with their friends in other chapters!

Sigma Chi Mixer:

The sisters of Alpha Phi and brothers of Sigma Chi gathered together to enjoy fresh barbeque and amazing weather.  The grill-master, Spencer Currie, cooked food for numerous sisters and brothers who gathered to enjoy this event.  In a nice, relaxing atmosphere young students interacted and enjoyed entertaining conversations.

Kappa Sigma Mixer:

The sisters of Alpha Phi hosted the brothers of Kappa Sigma in a mixer filled with pasta, marinara sauce, and garlic bread.   Since all the chairs in the house were filled, sisters and brothers could be found feasting in the kitchen and in the TV room while cheering on the US Olympic team!

Candy Grams - February 14:

In an effort to raise support for cardiac care, sisters in Alpha Phi sat together in the lobby of the Student Center and old Candy Grams.  After selling large numbers of Candy Grams to fellow students, all of the Candy Grams were delivered on Valentine’s Day.

In conjunction with selling Alpha Phi Candy Grams, sisters competed in an event called Sniper Week.  Each of the classes was competing against each other using stickers with names and hearts to tag sisters across campus.  This was all on in an effort to help with the publicity for the current Candy Gram Sale.  Despite the domination of the freshman in the beginning of the week, the juniors ended up winning the competition.

Silver Semi Formal - December 10:

Come the end of the semester, the Alpha Phi’s gathered together to celebrate the end of another semester. Our social chairs planned an excellent event at the Sheraton in Boston.  The night was spent in laughter, dancing, and enjoying one another’s company.  All in all it was a grand success due to the hard work that our social chairs put into making this event memorable!

Holiday Mixer - December 4:

As December rolled around, the sophomores in Alpha Phi worked hard to make sure that Holiday Mixer was a grand success. Having added a faculty hour before the main event, girls were able to host faculty members, as well as friends.  The Logarhythms performed various numbers, and everyone enjoyed food, friends, and pictures with Santa!
